  • Pins, rotary cutter, and small cutting mat for personal use

  • Rulers (6 1⁄2x 12is a useful size)

  • Pencil, chalk, water-soluble pen, or thin marker to mark with

  • Wonder clips

  • Pinking Shears (optional)

  • 1⁄4” Double Stick Fusible Tape (optional)

PRE-WORK...It is recommended you complete the prework before the day of the class to help ensure you finish The Perfect Wallet during class time.

Complete the following in advance: You will be cutting out all the pieces needed for the wallet and fusing the interfacings to the corresponding wallet unit pieces, the card slots, and the exterior zipper pockets before the class begins. As you cut each piece, mark or pin a label to each piece. Relabel the pieces after fusing for easy access during class.

Sample Modifications: The interfacings in the shop sample have been substituted with equivalent interfacings sold in the shop.

Fusible Mesh is equivalent to Pellon 911FF DECOMAGIC is equivalent to Pellon 71F

You will be learning how to install zippers, fold the card slots into an accordion, how to install the wallet frame and continue to develop your skills of reading patterns.

Read through the directions on the pattern to familiarize yourself with the information.

From the Main Fabric:
Fold in half lengthwise

Cut 1 Pattern Template: Exterior Wallet piece (label A)

Cut 2 — 8” strips. Sub cut these strips:
Card Slots: Cut 2
– 8” x 161⁄2” (label B) Back of Card Slots: Cut 1 - 8” x 81⁄2” (label C)

From Accent Fabric: Fold in half lengthwise
Cut 1 Pattern Template: Interior Wallet piece (label D) Cut 2
— 8” strips, sub-cut these strips:

Exterior Zipper Pockets: Cut 2 7 1⁄2” x 8” (label E) Lining Zipper Pockets: Cut 4 3 3⁄4” x 8” (label F)

From Interfacing:
Fusible Mesh OR Pellon 911FF

Cut 2 pattern template (label G)
**Suggestion: Cut 2 rectangles 12” x WOF of the interfacing. Pin the two pieces together and fold to accommodate the pattern template. Trace the perimeter of the pattern template with a pencil or other marking tool. Next measure approximately 1⁄4 inch inside the perimeter of as shown on the pattern piece itself. Trim this 1⁄4” away (look at the markings on the master template as the guide). Yes, it is a bit larger as it moves around the worries. The purpose of trimming away the interfacing is to remove bulk from the seam allowance.

Cut 2 – 8” x 161⁄2” (label H) (interfacing for the card slots piece B)
Cut 2 -
8” x 7 1⁄2” (label I) (interfacing for the exterior zipper pockets piece E)

From DECOMAGIC OR Peltex 71F Cut 2—8” x 2” (label J)

1. Fusing the Interfacing to the Wallet Unit:
On page 2, step 1, follow the directions as written. Once you have the DECOMAGIC/Peltex and the interfacing centered on the lining G template, fuse it all in place.
Fuse the interfacing to the wrong side of the card slots (step 3; page 2, sentence 1 only).
3. On page 3, in the second paragraph of step 6,
fuse the interfacing onto the wrong side of the two exterior zipper pockets. Your fusing is complete!!!

Bring the completed pieces (labeled) and any extra fabric/stabilizers as well to the class.
We will begin with
Make the Wallet Unit: step 2 on page 2 together when our class meets.
