Sew Powerful Purse Project

The Sew Powerful Purse program helps girls get feminine hygiene supplies to stay in school all month, saving them six weeks of school on average. It also supports seamstresses in Lusaka Zambia with training and good paying jobs. The Zambian team makes purposeful products (school uniforms, reusable feminine hygiene products, soap, and farm fresh food) all designed to help keep kids stay in school. The purses made, provide the perfect packaging for the reusable feminine hygiene supplies that are distributed to girls in health class. 

Your $5 to attend this event, is greatly appreciated and will go directly to Sew Powerful to aid in the shipment cost for all the purses collected, when they are ready to ship to Zambia. We’ll provide the pattern, instructions, and the purse kits ready to assemble! This will be a 5-hour event, so it’s possible that we can make quite a few purses. You just need to bring your sewing machine and some basic sewing supplies!

Supplies Needed for Sew Powerful Purse Project:

  • Sewing machine, Embroidery Machine, or Serger

  • Bobbin & Sewing Thread (for your machine)

  • Embroidery threads (and bobbin) if you’d like to add some embroidery detail to a section of the purse(s) you make.

  • Basic sewing supplies

  • Pinking Shears

If you need a refresher on how to use your sewing machine, please stop the store or call to schedule for a Machine Basics class!
