101 Sewing Series (Beginner)

These classes are meant for those new to sewing and techniques for everyday sewing will be taught while you make interesting and useful projects.

Week 1: To expand your sewing skills a lined drawstring bag will be made.  It is a fun and useful beginner project and will help you practice. You will continue to work on consistent seam allowances and fabric management.  You will also learn how to make a casing to pull your drawstring through, how to make a lining for the bag and how to piece together the outside of the bag.

Week 2:  You want to start learning to sew! We will teach you how to make a pillow.  This is a great way to start learning!  In this class, you will be making an 18" square pillow with a ruffle. Techniques for this session include keeping a consistent seam allowance, basting, fabric management, gathering, and sewing a zipper.

Week 3: You've made it through two classes (drawstring bag, ruffle pillow) now you're not really a beginner, right?  You've got a few yards of stitching under your belt.  So, let's do something a little more challenging.  How about a Vintage Style Apron?  Yes, you can do it! You’ll make a fashionable and functional vintage-style apron with sash ties and a pocket, ready to tackle any project! You will continue to work on consistent seam allowances and fabric management.

Week 4: Congrats! You’re now in you fourth and final week of this class! You’ve made a drawstring bag, ruffled pillow w/ zipper, and a vintage style apron. This week you’ll make a Tri-fold Wallet. You have a great foundation of keeping seam allowances, basting, fabric management, along with making button holes and sewing in a zipper! You’ll make this wallet with 4 card slots, cash pocket, and a notebook pocket. Practice your buttonhole skills with the buttonhole closure, add some top-stitching for some added detail, and perfect your 1/4” seam allowance.
